Hello all,
After further talks this week, it looks increasingly likely that Xabi Alonso will not be the next Liverpool manager.
No further information, but been told as of now a deal is off.
I've been told Sebastian Hoeness would be 100% ready to accept the LFC job if approached again.
Ta.
{Ed025's Note - cheers Carra..
22 Apr 2026 14:55:31
Oh this is interesting, cheers Carra.
Higher ups maybe not sure on Alonso then?
Ken
22 Apr 2026 14:55:55
Jaysus
22 Apr 2026 14:56:32
That's a shame.
Anyone but Slot would do for now.
22 Apr 2026 14:56:53
Crickey.
I wonder why he's no longer joining?
Hoeness, any good? Don't know much about him.
Does anyone know who else we are interested in?
22 Apr 2026 14:57:52
Thanks Carra. Is Slot still expected to leave in the summer?
22 Apr 2026 14:59:54
Cheers Carra, been following Sabastian for some time, i'd be very happy with his appointment 🤞
22 Apr 2026 15:00:35
Oh man now the ITKs are contradicting each other
Well, if this is the update I'm ok with Xabi not coming. Love him and would love the affinity and the story but feel like we are crying out for someone with a bit more experience.
22 Apr 2026 15:03:29
Good to hear from you Carra
Thanks mate
22 Apr 2026 15:03:30
Dont know what I feel. Maybe relieved, since I don't think Alonso would be the messiah everyone thinks he is. That said, I can't wait for Slot to be out the door.
22 Apr 2026 15:04:59
Wow 😮
22 Apr 2026 15:05:29
Wow, out of interest Carra taking Xabi out
of the equation, if it was your choice who do you think best suits us who is potentially achievable to bring in.
22 Apr 2026 15:05:40
I'm at the point of desperation where Bob Holness would do me, but that guy, Iraola, Enrique, Alonso are all good enough imho.
22 Apr 2026 15:09:36
Waiting for the meltdown on here for the next few hours
22 Apr 2026 15:10:44
I will not be too disappointed if Xabi doesn't join. The style of play is quite methodical and controlled. My top choice is Iraola. However, it seems more and more likely Slot might actually stay. In that case, let's hope he can reflect on the season, and play intense, attacking football. As long as we keep that up, I have no doubt the results will follow.
22 Apr 2026 15:10:47
Well that's interesting. and upsetting
Thanks carra.
Hopefully it means we are exploring other avenues and not sticking with slot. and definitely not offering a new contract (if he has changed his mind about leaving)
I assume the club set up of coach, not manager is the main reason and the club are in with Edwards and Hughes. which seems strange as they only have a year left.
Absolutely happy with Hoeness have to say. you not mentioned Iriaola. is he not on the agenda or is he expected at Man United still? .
As a famous John W tweet once said.
What have they been smoking??!!
22 Apr 2026 15:11:48
Enrique would be no.1 for me, if he could be tempted to leave PSG, Sebastian Hoeness I believe he plays 4-2-3-1 but would be a bit of a risk but equally I guess Xabi would be to a certain extent
22 Apr 2026 15:20:19
Cheers Carra.
Christ, cat amongst the pigeons.
As previous people have mentioned, are you still fully expecting Slot to leave regardless?
Look forward to hearing
22 Apr 2026 15:20:32
Maybe goes to Bayern? Kompany to city? Pep to retire?
22 Apr 2026 15:24:35
Thanks for the update, Carra. Do you have any guesses on why the deal is off? Any chance of its revival?
22 Apr 2026 15:27:06
Think this news may have dropped at the worst time. With all the noise of Slot staying flying around and Carra dropping this(i understand hoeness was mentioned in post) I suspect a lot of doom and gloom on here coming.
22 Apr 2026 15:32:07
Thanks, Carra.
I guess the noise about Xabi wanting greater influence over recruitment could have some truth in it.
Very disappointing given Hughes and Edwards are openly flirting with Saudi Arabia jobs on a constant basis.
22 Apr 2026 15:33:11
He's going to stay isn't he.
22 Apr 2026 15:35:17
Same query as Shipley, wonder if this means Slot has had a change of heart also if recent talk about him also wanting to leave is true?
22 Apr 2026 15:35:24
This is definitely to do with those di**heads Hughes and Edwards.
Xabi prob wants full control on transfers and these 2 egos maniacs are not allowing it.
I'm genuinely worried about the future now.
Really thought we'd get Alonso in and get back where we belong.
Don't know much about Hoeness but ed1 rates him. That'll do me.
Anyone but Slot!
22 Apr 2026 15:36:21
As long as there WILL be a new manager!
There will now be loads of rumours as to why Alonso won't be taking over, so we best get prepared for the 'so called ITK's' to be dropping posts every hour.
22 Apr 2026 15:37:31
This has not made my day haha but cheers for the info carra, very much appreciated.
22 Apr 2026 15:38:08
Slot staying looks like.
Robbo, Salah already leaving, McAlister, Jones, Alison linked elswhere too, looks like Slot won and is staying
22 Apr 2026 15:40:00
Thanks Carra
Disappointing but not as disappointing as Slot staying. Do you feel Hoeness would be approached, I believe he was the preference playing style of some people on here, never seen his teams play but as long as its not the same as this dross it will be an improvement.
Keep the posts coming as regardless of the crap being said on here at time all the ITK info is appreciated.
22 Apr 2026 15:46:57
Cheers Carra. Is this because Alonso wouldn't want Edwards/Hughes having so much say in players etc?
22 Apr 2026 15:57:57
As expected. Edwards and Hughes clearly digging their heels in with transfers. Another season with Slot or another yes man incoming to appease the egos of Edwards and his chums. Another long season ahead
22 Apr 2026 15:57:57
That more or less clarifies what the window cleaner said last week when he asked if Xabi was coming in & was replied with a shake of the head
22 Apr 2026 16:00:52
Talk about kicking a bloke when he's already down. That only means he still gunna be here next season. Can't see us going back in for Hoeness if we have said no to Alonso. Or is this an Iraola smokescreen?
22 Apr 2026 16:07:39
Damn looks like he's all set for Man City then or even Chelsea if they pay off rosenior
I think the best way to handle all this is the disappear to a remote island until August and then turn in your phone and have a look at what is happening at lfc lol
22 Apr 2026 16:13:03
I can only take that as a possible that he goes to City instead.
22 Apr 2026 16:18:23
Iraola 💪 for the reds revolution.
22 Apr 2026 16:18:37
Hoeness is talented but to me represents the biggest risk out of Alonso, Iraola, Flick and Hoeness (the four realistic options I would consider). He has reached the ceiling of what can be achieved at Stuttgart but is unproven when it comes to the Premier League, Europe and winning titles.
He is also a Bayern man through and through due to his own and family connections to the club. If he's a genuinely elite manager, it is inevitable he will manage there in the future. I doubt we would have his long-term loyalty.
I hope the issues with Alonso can be resolved.
22 Apr 2026 16:34:27
I won't be watching anywhere near as much if Slot stays. The most insipid football since Roy Hodgson. I just can't do it.
Its heartbreaking seeing all the work and confidence Klopp gave this club, city and fans evaporate in 18 months. I've lived through the 80's, Houllier, Benitez, Hodgson, a Kenny comeback, Rogers, Evans, Sounness etc
I just couldn't take another season of Slot.
22 Apr 2026 16:41:31
Thanks for the information Carra.
The club is a shambles though.
22 Apr 2026 16:46:54
I would see this as good news bad news.
Bad news is Alonso is your preferred choice to manage the club
Good news if you want slot gone, because if the club are actively involved in talks with another manager that smacks that the current incumbent is off.
22 Apr 2026 16:51:19
Thanks Carra. Very interesting
22 Apr 2026 16:57:40
If it's not Alonso I worry he'll end out at Chelsea or Arsenal and smash it.
22 Apr 2026 17:01:31
Carra,
I respectfully dislike this rumour.
Diddly out
22 Apr 2026 17:24:09
Ffs..
22 Apr 2026 17:32:40
I've never felt like Alonso wants LFC.
Still Iraola for me, he's the most Klopp-like in terms of tactics and intensity.
Hoeness more of a risk as he's never done it in the Prem.
Alonso to ManU would sting but not surprise me.
{Ed025's Note - Rosenior is out of work now Ron..you never know mate.. :)
22 Apr 2026 17:42:46
Iraola please
22 Apr 2026 17:49:39
Who's old enough to remember when Michael Edwards was the messiah?
More money to buy Isak than Cherki, Guehi and Semenyo combined has killed that.
22 Apr 2026 17:58:31
Not questioning your information Carra but what's changed? We have gone through the whole season expecting Xabi to take the reins?
22 Apr 2026 17:59:33
Good decision as better managers will be available next year. This year is going to be a musical chairs for mangers after world cup as every damn club needs one and their will be too much movement.
We have a manager, he will need to prove himself next year to earn that extension or we can be in the market for enrique, emery, carlo and perhaps klopp who knows
22 Apr 2026 18:34:37
So you want to continue with dross like the last 18 months Cafu. We have a manager yes but alas he's the problem with the results & more importantly the performances
22 Apr 2026 19:00:08
Thanks Carra, if anyone gives you hassle ignore them or better yet name and shame them if they want to act like kids treat them like it.
A bit disappointed as was hopeful of Alonso, but if he wanted assurances or control the club wasn't willing to give not much can be done.
Hopefully means someone like Enrique could be persuaded but I doubt it as I hear he feels he hasn't completed the project at PSG.
But it does mean the club is looking so finger crossed.
22 Apr 2026 19:19:55
Carra - just to follow on from the original post do you see Hoeness most likely now or a revisit of those previously spoken with which included Fabregas, Enrique etc?
22 Apr 2026 19:28:31
Thanks a million Carra. We really appreciate any information you can give us mate
22 Apr 2026 13:41:04
So to follow on from what I posted the other week and got pelters for... I've spoken again to my friend who has a contact at the youth academy. Word is Slot is set to sign a new contract which will keep him here for 3 more seasons. The club seem to accept this is a transitional season with a lot of new faces, mostly being injured for long periods and an adjustment to a new way of playing.
On the whole they are happy that we will get CL next season. If the same happens again next season however they will not be so encouraged. Alonso was never an option as they have always said if we get CL they are happy as is. Slot was and is their man and he will be here until he decides he's had enough. I would expect Alonso to be announced at another club very soon. Take that as you will.
22 Apr 2026 13:50:30
Smells like pure gasoline.
22 Apr 2026 14:10:13
Thank you for sharing, if true thanks also for ruining my day 👌👌
22 Apr 2026 14:10:52
Cheers for the rumour.
No decisions have been made prior to the conclusion of the season
22 Apr 2026 14:14:23
"He will be here until he decides he's had enough"
That's not how it works mate lol
22 Apr 2026 14:16:58
You were warned the 1st time mate.and I reckon you're about tk get more pelters 🤣🤣🤣🤣
At least you'll be used to it 🤣😂
On a serious note, thanks for the update, even though its not going to go down well with most of us
22 Apr 2026 14:30:02
Doesn't his contract end in 2027? If so why would they extend him now if they are willing to sack him next year should form still be this bad?
Not saying you're wrong and appreciate the posts but i can't see any sense in it. Mind you i can't see any sense in him still being here in April to be fair
22 Apr 2026 14:37:23
Cant be posting rumours people don't want to hear, you have to tell them something to make their day better😆
22 Apr 2026 14:36:11
I remain committed to my delusion. He will leave by mutual consent at the end of the season - possibly once CL qualification is mathematically secured.
22 Apr 2026 15:02:04
I don't know what to make of it. Even if the club are sticking with him, there is no point in renewing the contract yet. The jury will clearly be out next season if he stays, and if we are floundering like this come November, he SHOULD be relieved of his duties. Extending his contract at this point is pure foolishness.
22 Apr 2026 15:14:51
Agree FPF
I've set my mind to him going at end of season for the last 6 months.
So in my mind that's what's happening.
Heaven forbid he stays, let alone sign a new contract. not sure how I can compute that.
What part of this last year have they watched the games and thought. yeh. that's what we like to see. more of the same please.
22 Apr 2026 15:32:53
I guess we are spending on building a team to dominate in all comps, erm was there small print in that that said lose 17, out of all comps and scrape into champs league? Also was there any mention at pre season this is a transition period? I've seen zero progress this season under Klopp his transitional period always had an upward spiral this season is downward.
Only good fortune will see us in the chmps lge which for FSG is what its about, money from tv and chmps lge. This team has seen Wirtz probably say to himself he wished he had gone to Bayern. that's on Slots coaching.
22 Apr 2026 16:22:13
No one in the youth academy would be privy to this information. I doubt even Alex Inglethorpe.
No offence but, even if you are telling the truth about hearing this, it means absolutely nothing.
22 Apr 2026 16:32:20
Why is it good fortune were in the Champions league?
22 Apr 2026 13:25:57
Hi all,
The club are not currently assessing their options to make a permanent signing re Ekitike's injury. This is viewed as ripe opportunity for Isak to bed in and return to pre-Liverpool form.
Currently, we are looking at forwards to add some pace to the left wing and a replacement for Salah (which I believe will be Diomande).
While the club did admire Kolo Muani in the past, those days are gone and his poor time at Tottenham has soiled our interest.
Any questions, feel free to ask.
22 Apr 2026 13:49:39
Get Anthony Gordon in, rapid, can play all along the line (including CF), and his goal scoring stats this season are almost exactly same as Ekitike's. Bayern are looking at him, so he's good enough for us. Preparing for pelters.
22 Apr 2026 13:54:47
Thanks for the info! Diomande makes sense as he can play both left and right. But considering we have Ngumoha who will be a little older, and Gakpo on the left, do you really think we need another left winger?
For me, I think we need 2 options for the right. The first being Diomande makes sense but a left footed player for the right would be helpful too. Thoughts on Elliott staying for another season?
22 Apr 2026 14:01:53
Hope you're right about RK Muani. 1 Premier League goal this season is awful. I get that 22 million euro is very cheap for a 27 year old striker with his overall career pedigree, but it feels like Chiesa all over again. I don't want to sign players on a downward trajectory.
22 Apr 2026 14:05:29
Not that it would happen, but I wonder if Hugo had been hurt prior to Mo announcing he was leaving, if it could have tempted him to stay.
22 Apr 2026 14:14:16
Cheers Vic, hopefully some of the lads on the cusp of first team can step up. Danns looks to have potential if he can stay injury free.
22 Apr 2026 14:19:16
Diomande looks like Semenyo II
His body looks ready to go in the prem.
Hope we get him
22 Apr 2026 14:25:07
Cheers for update VG.
Do you know of any concrete interest in Olise. I know him, Diomande and Barcola have all been mentioned. Personally would love any 2 of those for the wings.
Main thing we need is a tough, resilient, rarely injured midfield with bundles of energy.any names on that which you could mention?
Cheers in advance
22 Apr 2026 14:41:02
Sign two wingers (Diomande and one other) this summer, have Cody Gakpo deputise for Alexander Isak, with one of Will Wright or Jayden Danns as backup.
Then sign a more robust first choice RB, capable of inverting, and have Jeremie Frimpong be both right wing and right back cover.
If Hugo returns well, we can look to move Cody Gakpo on the summer after.
22 Apr 2026 14:41:09
AZ, I do not think Elliott will be in the squad next season. Very unhappy with the club. Perhaps of all goes to plan and Slot does leave, that may change. It's a shame because he adores us.
2shoes, there is big interest in Olise yes. As I understand, Diomande is our first choice. Barcola is also deeply admired. One thing however that the club are aware of is the personal/PR issues with Olise. Not going into detail but what I am referring to is on social media.
I don't think at the end of the day that it would stop us from signing him if given the chance, but it is something interesting to consider.
22 Apr 2026 14:46:05
Does this mean the end of Chiesa at the club too? I was so hoping for him to be given a proper chance under a new manager.
22 Apr 2026 14:52:41
FSGGenius, Gordon's goal scoring is absolutely nothing like Elitike. What absolute nonsense. Ekitike has 11 Premier League goals, all scored in open play. Gordon has only scored 3 in open play the other 3 goals being penalties.
22 Apr 2026 15:19:06
So he has 6 Premier League goals so Victor? And they've both scored 17 in all comps.Fail to see where the nonsense is.Gordons à good player.
22 Apr 2026 17:40:22
Gordon is not remotely a good player. He's bang average and always gets found out against decent opponents. He's no better than dross like Stewart Downing or Joe Cole when we signed them. There is an absolute dearth of talent with English footballers.
It is absolutely nonsense to compare the two of them. Four of Gordon's non Premier League goals came against Quarabag, which is flat track bully stuff at best and in the league Gordon isn't remotely comparable. 3 goals is open play is absolutely rubbish.
He's a bang average winger at best with nothing to his game beyond theatrics. Can't beat a man with skill, his end product is poor and his intelligence and decision making non existent.
{Ed025's Note - i take it you are not his PR manager then Victor?.. :)
22 Apr 2026 20:26:01
Interestingly, I see Gordon is rumoured to have drawn interest from Bayern, no idea why, but as I started to look into it I found that quite a large number of Newcastle fans are far less than impressed with him.
Had no idea he went nearly a full calendar year without scoring. I hereby revoke my suggestion of paying no more than £50m and in place suggest we table a bid of 50m jaffa cakes, the knock-off ones from Lidl.
22 Apr 2026 09:14:27
Rumours gathering a lot of pace that we're going to sign Kolo Muani this summer for a cut price of about 22 million euros, following the Ekitike injury. I guess there are worse players we could sign as a back up to Isak, and if true it would indicate the injury to Ekitike is quite severe.
Ruptured Achilles can take 6-12 months to heel, so presumably Ekitike will be closer to the 12 month lay off. Muani has had an utterly atrocious season, but then again he wouldn't be that cheap if he was coming of the back of a good one!
22 Apr 2026 09:58:33
Was hoping Danns and Gakpo coukd do bits up top. And in a absolute emergency Wirtz in the false 9.
22 Apr 2026 10:04:44
Even if it was around the 9 month mark MK that would take us up to January so it looks like we'll need someone.Shame Danns can't be relied on so far because i would rather go with him.
22 Apr 2026 10:11:31
Absolutely hopeless player him, he's so crap that he makes Ricky Lambert look like peak Ian Rush in comparison. We'd be just as well to get £22m in used £50 notes and set fire to it, quite why we'd help PSG get rid of their unwanted overpaid rubbish beggars belief.
He's not up to it at the Premier League level. I'd hope this is just lazy paper talk as he's not fit to wear the shirt.
22 Apr 2026 10:17:09
Muani has a goal every other game for Juve so not that bad a goal return. He struggled when playing for Spurs but then again it is spurs so it is hard for any one player to stand out in that team.
22 Apr 2026 10:17:11
Never rated Kolo Muani, he was good on video games but not in real life.i Hope we can find better!
22 Apr 2026 10:22:30
Would prefer to see Danns.
RKM is a dud, we don't need to sign any more expensive duds. That's not the way you improve
22 Apr 2026 10:33:28
That would be a poor signing in my opinion, might as well just use Chiesa
22 Apr 2026 10:47:51
Doesn't make much sense to me unless we plan to sell him after a year. We should see how Danns goes in pre season. We should presume Isak will be much fitter next season and we have Gakpo (who i'd like to sell) and Wirtz who can play false 9 if we can get some pace back on the wings.
If we are looking for a stopgap I'd rather look at someone who can play across the 3 or like Mateta who has proven he can actually score.
22 Apr 2026 10:52:11
Really don't see the need, Gakpo could offer cover if necessary and hopefully Jayden Danns or Will Wright could step up off the bench.
22 Apr 2026 10:56:30
Are we incapable of making loan deals? Can we not loan a striker for a season, like almost every other team manages to do.
22 Apr 2026 11:07:58
Where has this muani crap come from we will go backwards signing players of this calibre.
Give the kids a go from academy the coaches must know who is ready to step up other wise what use is the academy to the club if we don't use it when needed.
YNWA
22 Apr 2026 11:19:30
No thanks.
22 Apr 2026 11:19:57
If as one of the ITK's are saying and the 2 years of links suggest we are in for Barcola, then I'd rather get Barcola he's capable of playing centreally.
We would have Isak, Wirtz, Ngmoah, Barcola, Diomande, Ekitike Gakpo.
we have youth in Danns, if necessary Szobo has played rw before and that 10 role Wirtz occupies.
We need to sort out DM, RB a CB more than we need a 3rd choice striker for when Ekitike is back
22 Apr 2026 11:25:29
Would much rather try some youth players. heaven forbid use what we got. maybe Chiesa could do a job if given a chance of more than 5 minutes!
Sure he can be relied upon for 6 months to run around and score the odd goal.
22 Apr 2026 12:03:45
Would rather get darwin nunez in on loan
22 Apr 2026 12:05:30
Please no, I don't often slate players of any club on here but I don't think he's very good at all.
22 Apr 2026 12:39:49
MK - it'd be a welcome miracle if he is back playing in 6 months.
He's had a complete tear. Given speed and quickness are major assets of his game, I am not expecting to see Ekitike playing again until this time 2027.
Certainly not expecting anything significant from him for all of next season.
2027/28 season may be the year we can start to put some expectations on him.
Obviously praying for a much quick and effective rehab than that but to be fair, I think a fit firing Ekitike by 2027/28 will be the aim
22 Apr 2026 13:11:39
At 22million Euros it's not the worst business we could do. We're always complaining about squad depth. I know he hasn't set the world alight at Spurs but there is a decent player in there with plenty of speed which this team lacks in abundance.
At those figures I wouldn't say no personally. I know people saying give danns a chance but we've all seem the lad can't stay fit. So counting on him is a non starter
22 Apr 2026 13:30:55
Don't we have Will Wright? Wonder how he's been doing and whether he could do a job as backup striker.
22 Apr 2026 15:01:28
hellohello there is no amount of money that makes Muani a sensible purchase. His finishing is awful, his first touch is appalling, and for a big lad he's hopeless in the air. It's funny that on whoscored in the section titled "Strengths" it says "player has no significant strengths".
It'd be like signing Balotelli all over again, once you spend the money you're then lumbered with a player you can't get shot of who contributes absolutely eff all when they're on the pitch abc who no one wants to sign.
Let him stink out the PSG bench,
21 Apr 2026 19:22:13
I've seen that the club are saying Slot is going nowhere. I find this distressing.
21 Apr 2026 19:43:56
RTFP.
21 Apr 2026 20:04:03
That was set up quite nicely chrisymate.
Well played sir!
21 Apr 2026 20:07:11
Be kind BeKind
21 Apr 2026 21:56:03
I can't anymore I try but the same question by the hour is nuts.
Ed2 we miss you
21 Apr 2026 22:14:50
Tell you what though. Could always be worse. Who's this sausage managing Chelsea? 😂
21 Apr 2026 23:51:45
I think Slot's going to Holland on Wednesday. You sure he's going nowhere OP?
21 Apr 2026 23:57:56
I just read that Chelsea have lost their last five league matches and not scored a single goal. It's their worst run of losing and nit scoring since 1912 - 114 years ago!! Staggering considering how much money they spend.
22 Apr 2026 00:19:11
It actually does get worse, we've been linked to Randal Kolo Muani. Now that is Bodgers era level of dross right there.
22 Apr 2026 02:58:02
Keeping Slot purely because of how bad Rosenior has been at Chelsea is an awful decision. There should be no. Finish here = stay. Don't finish here = sacked. He's either the right man or he's not. He isn't.
22 Apr 2026 04:17:14
You don't actually believe we have kept Slot because an overpaid Isthmian league standard manager is "in charge", for want of a better phrase, at Chelsea. Their worst run of results of its type in 114 years (before the First World War) is just staggering. Good to see the manager throwing his team under the bus.
22 Apr 2026 04:20:36
WDW - Chelsea are in a state. Serious mismanagement. The debt I think they could be in could rise to 1.4bn if I'm not mistaken. Depending on repayments. It's really a mess.
You need a very strong manager to come in and sort that out and I'm not sure ownership and the structure there want to hear those truths.
It just shows you throwing money at things alone cannot work.
22 Apr 2026 07:15:49
To be clear my post was not a set up. I want to man out of our club. I've been coming on here 4 times a day for months. If you look back on my posts I was one of the first to raise concerns.
When we let Diaz go, I was gutted and said so! Ed001 put me right about what was going on with his dad behind the Sean's. I also pointed out during the summe that I didn't understand how slot was going to set up the forward line! I didn't see how we could play everyone. Turns out I was right. because SLOT DOSENT KNOW EITHER! I also pointed out that we Limped over the line last year. I got slaughted on here.
So yes with the message from the club in full support of Slot I am depressed. No set up.
This is a struggle. Our football has no i'd
If this guy stays we are going to loose 10 years of growth and be back to Rodger's time.
YNWA
22 Apr 2026 07:21:12
Couldn't care less how many Chelsea lose Slot is abysmal and needs bombing.
22 Apr 2026 09:37:37
Let's hope Chelsea are still poor when we play them, Sods law they turn up when we play them
22 Apr 2026 10:49:07
Is weird we are releasing stories that he is staying to the press. Would make more sense to just say nothing that make a big song and dance and then he leave.
Likely the players already know so don't know the point of hyping up that he will stay except to annoy the fans. Very strange if true
22 Apr 2026 11:12:33
Same sentiments Chrisymate.
I mentioned back in Dec that this 1 year of mismanagement will set us back 10 years if we are not careful.
We had a good summer on paper last year. Being champions, players were jumping at the chance to join us.
Assuming they are still at the previous clubs this season.
Will Wirtz still pick us over City/Bayern?
Will Isak still pick us over Arsenal?
Will current players look to extend their contracts?
We have to get Szoboszlai tied on down ASAP. The longer it drags, i worry that it will end up in another Trent situations
Will youngsters in academies still want to stay/join us, considering that ours barely get an opportunity to play.
Rio and Nyoni shld be playing more imo.
Our squad planning is ridiculously poor. You can't simply change the whole team in 2 years.
We won the league in 2025.
By the summer of 2027, we might only have 4 starters and 2-4 squad players from the title winning squad remaining.
We are tearing down a title winning squad in double quick time. There is simply no continuity, passing down the standard and culture with such turnover. This is not football manager!
Allison (gone if no extension, couple more years at most)
Kelleher (gone)
Trent (gone)
Bradley
Konate (might stay if extend contract)
Van Dijk (likely gone if no extension)
Gomez (likely gone if no extension)
Quansah (gone)
Robertson (gone)
Tsimikas (likely gone if no extension)
Szoboszlai (last year of contract.? on extension)
Mac (last year of contract.? on extension. might leave this summer)
Grav
Endo (likely gone if no extension)
Jones (? on extension)
Elliott (likely gone)
Morton (gone)
McConnell
Nyoni
Salah (gone)
Nunez (gone)
Diaz (gone)
Jota (RIP)
Gakpo
Chiesa (likely gone)
21 Apr 2026 17:02:40
Wharton is seen as the no 1 replacement for Macca, who wants to leave and is one of those the club is looking to cash in on.
Endo, Gomez, Elliot, Gakpo and a couple of youngsters are all possible exits as well.
Jones is an odd one, he wants to stay but he is also aware he could go elsewhere and be a 1st team regular.
I still expect him to sign a new contract tho.
Another more robust midfielder will be looked at as well.
As for wingers, the noises are Diomande is 1st choice but I'm also being told not to discount Barcola.
Slot wise, I'm staying out of it. 😂
21 Apr 2026 17:31:38
Cheers, TheFields, good to hear from you, mate. Thing is, Slot doesn't like robust midfielders, so I'll just leave that there. 😜
21 Apr 2026 17:37:14
Thanks, Fields. Any news on Chiesa?
21 Apr 2026 17:41:42
Cheers Fields, much appreciated mate.
21 Apr 2026 17:51:35
It feels strange to get invested in transfer rumours when the manager isn't sorted.
21 Apr 2026 18:01:15
Cheers Fields
21 Apr 2026 18:04:54
If a proper no.6 is not priority this summer it'll be same as you were next year, 2 years on an fabinho hasn't been replaced. Hughes master class
21 Apr 2026 18:07:39
SA, I've just been sent this from a mate. Its off X and comes from Slots mouth apparently
"I hope and I assume that if I leave, and whenever that might be, people remember me for the fact that we won the league in my time over here, but that I also played a big part in creating a new cycle."
Make of it what you will 😂.
Sorry Red, he is expected to leave but the same could of been said last summer mate
21 Apr 2026 18:11:21
Elliot is important to move on as counts as pure money as homegrown. Could he be used in a deal for Diomande? Endo could be worth keeping for the season as he's only got one year left same with Gomez as no one's buying a massively injury prone defender with a year left.
Jones has a year left so if no deal done then likely to be sold and again pure profit. Perhaps João Gomes could be had cheaper now Wolves are down.
{Ed001's Note - home grown is nothing to do with pure profit.}
21 Apr 2026 18:16:35
Cheers Fields.
On Gakpo, would we consider keeping him now Ekitke is out for a long period
21 Apr 2026 18:21:04
Unfortunately the cycle he created was one with reverse gears only. I won't be sorry to see the back of him.
21 Apr 2026 18:23:38
Cheers TheFields, I have also seen some other quotes apparently from Slot along similar lines.
It doesn't feel like its from somebody who's planning on staying.
21 Apr 2026 18:28:59
It's irrelevant who we sign if Slot remains in charge
21 Apr 2026 18:37:29
I think it will be another years waste of Endo's career if he hangs around at Liverpool.Should have left last summer.
21 Apr 2026 18:56:58
Ed thought it counted as pure profit or was it the fact you can use the money straight away. Hence the benefits of club selling more homegrown talent
{Ed001's Note - that is not how it works. I don't know why you would think homegrown status had any bearing on it.}
21 Apr 2026 19:03:54
Thanks for the info Thefields
21 Apr 2026 20:27:18
Academy players who the club sell count as pure profit as they had so purchase value against them on club accounts, so whatever you sell them for you earn back. They players are often home grown but in this context it's incidental.
For example, you could buy a home grown player elsewhere, then sell them again 2 years later, and the money you make from the sale wouldn't count as pure profit, it would be balanced against their purchase cost / remaining value on the club books (determined by fee paid and length of contract remaining).
This is an incomplete summary of course but hopefully clears up the confusion somewhat.
21 Apr 2026 20:54:49
Ed001 what do you think will happen to Elliott if Slot leaves. I would like him to come back think he is a good squad player and was vastly under used last season by Slot.
Think he could have helped this season his loan has been a total waste of time really poor deal I would have rather it just have been a straight loan than this so he could have played more games.
Never should have agreed to that deal.
{Ed001's Note - it will depend on who replaces Slot. I would expect a new man to actually take a look at him though.}
21 Apr 2026 21:31:55
Elliott just isn't good enough for Liverpool unfortunately. Just being honest.
21 Apr 2026 21:58:27
Slot should have stopped at hoping people would remember he won the league and not the big part he played in the balls up this season.
21 Apr 2026 23:02:21
Great info Thefields. Thanks
21 Apr 2026 23:08:11
I really hope we don't keep Gakpo to cover for Ekitike, especially if Bayern are willing to pay £70m for him.
Plenty of better alternatives, especially if we can bring in pacey and direct forwards on both flanks. Wirtz could play in a Firmino type role at times, if we have these types of forwards and need to rest Isak.
22 Apr 2026 09:47:14
If we sold Mo Salah for $1, that would count as pure profit wouldn't it? lol
also, where did we get the info that Slot doesn't want a combative midfielder? is that from the ITKs that he blocked recruitment for a combative midfielder?
22 Apr 2026 09:48:07
Also, I'd really keep Harvey. From a club-first perspective, wouldn't it be better for us to keep him for the season especially as we don't know what shape Ekitike may return in in 2027, if he returns that is.
22 Apr 2026 11:42:27
KeegansPerm, homegrown refers to the squad building rule whereby players must have spent 3 years playing for teams in the FA by the age of 21. "Pure profit" is part of the accounting rules, where academy players are given zero value on the books, which is hugely beneficial for PSR but doesn't always literally mean pure profit; with Elliot for example, he was brought in from Fulham for about £1m and has a sell on clause too.
They are completely unrelated but it's an easy mistake to make because people do sometimes use the word homegrown to describe an academy player.
22 Apr 2026 12:12:17
I'm sorry Fornax but on what evidence this season can Wirtz play a false 9 role for us?
He doesn't have the holdup play of Firmino. He doesn't have the intelligence of Firmino.
He's a young lad struggling for form. He needs playing in his preferred position and a confidence boost, not sticking him up front in the Premier League and asking him to do a job until Hugo comes back.
22 Apr 2026 13:30:40
Navy Keith, Outside of Dom and Ekitike there's no evidence for anybody being capable of playing any position based on this season alone, so that's a nonsense stipulation. Wirtz did play the false 9 occasionally at Leverkusen. He also has elite off the ball movement (which most of our squad is too slow or blinkered to recognize) which is essentially half the battle for a false 9, not to mention great close control and creative passing.
Moving up to the forward line could actually improve his game considerably for us as he requires the team to play through him in order to get the best out of him and playing as a false 9 could make him more of a focal point.
22 Apr 2026 14:38:47
Love your work as always Fields.
Anyone saying keep Gakpo must be out of their minds. Nowhere near the level needed.
Desperately need another 6/dm type in. Need another option there and hopefully a bit of competition for Grav will spur on a lift in his level
22 Apr 2026 14:50:19
Everything Chewy said, but also just to add I don't think we have had the right types of forwards fit to play with a false 9 consistently. We would need players running off Wirtz, with the pace and directness that Salah and Mane used to offer Firmino for it to be effective.
23 Apr 2026 00:43:09
Gakpo is fine in the squad and with another player competing with him. It feels silly to say, but he's literally shown this in previous season
21 Apr 2026 16:23:18
Afternoon Gents
I've been told Konate has agreed and signed his deal.
Cheers.
21 Apr 2026 17:02:07
Thanks Robbo.
21 Apr 2026 17:11:00
Protects his value and hopefully offers guidance for the youngsters coming through. If he can sort out the brain farts, then we might look back in a year's time and be glad he's extended.
21 Apr 2026 17:23:03
Thanks for the update, Robbo.
21 Apr 2026 17:24:50
Delighted. Been a tough year for him.
21 Apr 2026 17:41:17
Yeah all players have underperformed this year plus he's lost a close friend and his dad. I think his performances this season make sense when you put it in perspective and next year with Leoni and Jacquet pushing him I expect he'll be back to his former self. I'm glad he's extended
21 Apr 2026 18:10:26
Great 4th choice CB for next season.
21 Apr 2026 18:22:14
Just when you think things couldn't get any worse. They obviously can.
21 Apr 2026 18:49:51
Not entirely sure why this is seen as a positive.
He's been a weak link for a while and he's only signed as his twerking for the attention of others hasn't produced any results!
21 Apr 2026 18:51:15
If that's the case Robbo that's the worst bit of business Hughes and Edwards have done as Konate is the worst CB in the top 2 leagues😡 .and that's amongst some colossal clusterflucks over the last few months (Ghehi and Semenyo in particular). We're treading water now as it is and if Sloth 🦥 stays we'll drown next season for sure!! 🙈🤷🏼🤯
21 Apr 2026 20:29:18
@Wassa, if he hasn't / doesn't sign a contract he is gone on July 1st and the club get £ 0. If he signs a contract extension and his form picks up next season then it's good for the club in terms of a (potentially) very good player.
Irrespective of form next season we are still positioned to sell him and bring in cash from his (potentially) sale.
21 Apr 2026 21:10:51
People have short memories.
Not long back there were multiple threads with people apologising to Ibou (indirectly) as nobody knew what was going on in the background with his dad etc. how that may have been effecting him and would continue to do so etc etc etc.
Now it is back to hammering him. The short period people actually saw the human in the shirt was nice.
The whole team have been poor this year. The defence and GK, whoever it may be, have suffered significantly due to how exposed the midfield has left them.
The tactics and football has failed to flatter any player, Ibou included. As such should we let everyone walk on a free if the opportunity arises?
21 Apr 2026 21:29:59
That depends entirely on the contract WDW.
It could equally be an Edwards special where ibou is given a ridiculously high wage.
Which seriously effects any sale value anyway as nobody will pay him what we are. In which case if his form doesn't improve, and he's never really shown more than the briefest of glimpses it can, we are stuck with him on monster wages.
21 Apr 2026 21:32:29
Not a bad thing as it protects his value
{Ed001's Note - what value? The only reason he isn't leaving is because he has no value.}
21 Apr 2026 23:09:36
I think you're selling us a bit short there, Ed. Plenty of clubs would pay a good fee for him, just not a better club.
{Ed001's Note - I doubt it.}
21 Apr 2026 23:44:55
I don't think he's as good as some make out, but I also don't think he's as bad as you have said in the past (particularly on the podcast).
For what it's worth, I don't believe Slot's "style" of slow, low-risk, build up brings out the best in him, although he has definitely played more under Slot than he did with Klopp so there is that. I also don't think the supposed attacking "tweaks" to the midfield helped any of our defenders in the early stages of the season.
The good thing about him signing a contract is we will probably be able to test our hypotheses and render a somewhat objective conclusion.
Until then, I hope we can agree to disagree.
22 Apr 2026 00:56:39
He's a bit like Lovren to me when he is good he is really good and when he's bad he's complete rubbish. Last year when we trotted to the prem he was top 5 CB in the league, people have short memories.
22 Apr 2026 01:00:40
No club wanted Konate even when he would be on a free in the summer. But we have now given him a contract with supposed higher wages and clubs would need to pay to get him on the future. If he can't even go for free, what makes you think a club would come in with £50m to get him?
22 Apr 2026 05:21:23
He's going to be on an obscene amount of money per week and will probably get replaced in the starting 11 by Jacquet or Leoni.
Konate is no better than Gomez, just fitter, but he's not worth 200k+ per week (guess amount) and probably a 4 year contract or something.
I'd rather Leoni or Jacquet partners VvD and a cheap, experienced CB is bought as 4th or 5th choice with Konate leaving.
22 Apr 2026 06:55:12
Konate staying at Liverpool lacks progress in my opinion. I know he's had a tough year personally and with squad rotation and defensive personnel, I just don't ever see consistency in his personal ability. Disappointed.
22 Apr 2026 09:49:01
I mean if he can't attract another club to get him on a free, what makes people think a club is going to come and pay a transfer fee for him? lol
things can change though ;)
22 Apr 2026 11:10:03
I'm not konate's biggest fan. He can do some great things and some terrible things. I'd prefer a centre back to be consistently good and consistently make good decisions.
However, realistically if he was for sale plenty of teams would buy him. He's a starting centre back for France.
22 Apr 2026 11:59:26
Ed001 do you think the club maybe views extending Konate's contract as an easier/cheaper deal to make than signing a top CB to replace him right now, also giving us the opportunity to get a fee for hm next summer?
Considering there's quite a few holes need filling this window and it's likely the club is very wary of over-spending, the extension gives us enough time for Jacquet to break into the squad, so we can sell Konate next year.
{Ed001's Note - yes, but cheap and easy is rarely, if ever, better.}
22 Apr 2026 12:50:58
Would it be on the official LFC website if it is true he'd signed a new contract? Just asking
22 Apr 2026 12:56:08
Agreed. My hope is that the contract has only been given so as to sell him next year. In which case I think it's a reasonable compromise so long as we spend accordingly elsewhere.
21 Apr 2026 16:14:30
Thats Carra, Robbo & Victor all stating (again) that Slot is going in the summer.
Can we stop with the hourly questions now or is this all we are going to get for the rest of the season.
Eds I don't envy you having to rinse and repeat these same posts over and over.
Have faith in those with proven records of info and everyone stay calm.
Peace
21 Apr 2026 17:14:10
Ah come now…..It’s like kids in back of the car on way to somewhere exciting…..
Is he gone yet…….not yet.
Is he gone yet…….not yet.
Is he gone yet…….not yet.
Kinda sad that one year on from the high of winning the league, we (mostly) all hope & pray that the manager is leaving.
21 Apr 2026 17:32:43
Brilliant Nutter. :)
22 Apr 2026 15:03:40
Less than 24 hours later, Carra drops a bombshell update
Guess we're back to the hourly questions
