EDS, I have just read on Sky Sports that Carra now believes that Slot will stay for next season! This is a disaster - what possible reason could they have to retain such a poor manager?
Thanks to everyone for a great forum.
{Ed025's Note - sky sports Carra will say things to justify his existence as a pundit Phil, i prefer to listen to our Carra mate who has provided some great info for this site...even if things might change..
21 Apr 2026 07:05:16
People said the same in the summer of 2015.
The reason was 'they were waiting for their number one choice to be available - Jurgen Klopp'.
There is no managerial window, maybe there should be, so Liverpool can sack a manager when the time is right and the best replacement is available.
21 Apr 2026 08:02:15
Carragher shouldn't even have a job on TV after what he did. It's amazing how quickly all his pundit mates seem to have forgotten that.
For me, he's tarnished what reputation he had as a player for the spitting incident.
{Ed025's Note - im with you 2Shoes..
21 Apr 2026 08:28:55
He ain't even a good pundit, yet who is.
20 Apr 2026 18:49:57
Reports are suggesting Mamardashvili will be out for 2 - 4 weeks depending on how well the wound heals.
20 Apr 2026 19:29:22
Stick a plaster on it and get on with it, lad. Your club needs you for the next couple of weeks.
20 Apr 2026 19:57:50
Wow, didn't think it was that bad at all.
20 Apr 2026 20:09:28
Some poster will now write, "Mama, you're at the best club in the world. Millions of fans would love to be Liverpool's keeper. Run it off. Put on some New Skin! Here we go!"
20 Apr 2026 20:13:49
What happened to Jaros?
I was quite impressed with him when I have seen him.
20 Apr 2026 20:39:53
Jaros did his ACL mid-season at Ajax, so he will be out for a while.
{Ed025's Note - you can try Witz in goal MANGO...he has to be good at something mate.. :)
20 Apr 2026 21:06:51
Premier Injuries (the physio room) suggest he could be ready for the weekend, just not likely (25%).
Hopefully it's not multiple weeks, otherwise we need to hope that either Woodman or the team can adapt to the others' build-up style. I don't know if we can sustain 90 minutes with that level of discord.
He made a good save and a few decent recoveries, but he and the defence could not seem to get on the same page about his involvement in build-up.
We need a result against Palace to claim some flexibility against United, Chelsea and Villa. Palace always seem to cause us problems though, without any of our encouragement.
20 Apr 2026 21:03:27
No way Ed.You know Wirtz needs movement around him for him to be effective.
How is he going to play out the back with VVD & Konate around him?
He may as well just kick the ball into his own goal.
{Ed025's Note - it would have to be in the 6 yard box though JLC, i dont think he would have the strength to kick it any further mate.. :)
20 Apr 2026 21:35:22
Any update from Malmo, Fornax?
20 Apr 2026 22:14:44
"Mama, you're at the best club in the world. Millions of fans would love to be Liverpool's keeper. Run it off. Put on some New Skin! Here we go!"
20 Apr 2026 23:10:46
Knowing Slot:
Dominick Szoboszlai will be the new LFC goalkeeper.
He will also be the only player we will have in the best Premier Eleven for 2025-2026 as our regular "Right Back".
21 Apr 2026 00:52:20
Jones for goalkeeper.
21 Apr 2026 07:06:07
We had Woodman at Swansea for a season, and he was solid. If he has a run in goal, he will do a decent job for a few weeks.
21 Apr 2026 06:53:43
Ed025 - Surely Wirtz isn't that bad.
the expecations are over the roof because of transfer money.
I am sure he will come good with so much talent.
{Ed025's Note - im sure he will come good Sami, hes a very good footballer mate but has been a bit underwhelming up to now i would say..
21 Apr 2026 07:14:47
I thought Woodman was alright when he came on for us. A bit of commas issue between him and VVD, but he seemed calm each time and didn't really panic. If it's just a few weeks, I don't think it'll be much of an issue if he fills in.
20 Apr 2026 17:45:02
Following on from what I said about Joshua Abe and being called a liar - can those same guys do me a favour and type his name into Google and X to see what's being said?
He was also at the Man City game. Look into rumoured wages being offered to him. I told you all months ago what was coming.
This site is built on rumours. Some come to be, some don't, but I'll only ever post what I'm hearing from reputable people. I love what the Eds have done here and all I ask is that you respect the guys going out their way.
Transfer targets change quickly Macca and the rest are top lads.
Remember who we are. YNWA.
20 Apr 2026 18:33:08
Keep the stories coming, Sami.
Unfortunately, mate, if the keyboard warriors don't like what they read, then they seem to think that they attack and belittle the poster.
It is a very small minority though, so please don't take what they say to heart.
20 Apr 2026 20:15:57
So, people can't question what being said by people they don't know and has a fact of that trust? Sounds weird, but yea I'll go along with that. 🙄
20 Apr 2026 23:41:01
Hey Sami, what's that noise? Is that the sound of your own trumpet being blown? Keep them coming, and some day the seasoned readers of this site may utter your name in the same sentence as the likes of Carra, but until then know this... Mama Boom always told me 'self praise is no praise at all!!'.
21 Apr 2026 00:54:57
Is there a limit to what kids his age can be offered on scholarship?
21 Apr 2026 05:30:09
JimJim, They didn't question, that's the problem. They just threw out accusations of "liar" and "facts" that were flat-out wrong. That's what I took issue with.
Haha, NoMoreBoom, don't worry, I won't be getting anywhere near that level - right now I've just got contacts with scouts abroad and at youth level. I just want to share the conversations I'm hearing. Seeing the criticism aimed at someone like Macca etc, who adds a lot to this site, was disappointing more than anything.
Faithinworks, it's his first professional deal, so 1 year scholar + 2 year pro (you can only sign for a maximum of 3 years at U18, and you can only sign a professional deal in the UK at 17). Joshua Abe turns 16 this summer, hence the 1 + 2. And like I said months ago, Man City have offered the biggest package I've heard of at this level.
21 Apr 2026 06:04:30
Sorry I meant Carra. Macca is the Og rumour king on this site.
20 Apr 2026 16:46:03
I am confused with this Gakpo contract talk. Didn't he sign an extension last summer doubling his money and keeping him here from 2028-2030. Transfermarkt have him until 2030 and Capology say he signed it August 30th 2025.
20 Apr 2026 17:05:33
He signed a new deal in the summer. I don't trust the reported wages. However, if they are even close to true, it looks like questionable business.
Same goes for Gravenberch's recently reported deal.
20 Apr 2026 17:06:55
I've just seen the video that's doing the rounds, I wonder if it's for something else? As you rightly say, Gakpo only extended recently, unless I'm missing something.
20 Apr 2026 17:16:39
There's a Tommy Hilfiger promotional video going around which Will Arnett (the US actor), Ibou and Cody are featuring in, along with a bunch of extras/fans.
Maybe that is causing the confusion?
20 Apr 2026 17:24:15
Gravenberch went from 150kpw to 280kpw and a 6 year deal. Gakpo went from 120kpw up to 250kpw but another website had it at 200kpw. Questionable on wages front, but secures the assets for a long time.
20 Apr 2026 17:24:26
Gakpo 100% signed a new contract last year, not sure where you're seeing reports he's negotiating.
FlyPelican, unfortunately, I do believe the numbers claimed. We seem to be throwing money at players these days. Hughes seems to be under the impression he's already in Saudi.
When you look at Gakpo's stats for last season, it's actually not hard to imagine them justifying it. It was a title winning season too, that gives everyone more leverage except the club. Pretty much all business done under Hughes/Edwards has been questionable business, unfortunately.
20 Apr 2026 17:27:38
I think that's the one, mate, it's been shared as a contract signing video.
20 Apr 2026 19:25:14
I think Gakpo would have been gone in the summer if not for Ekitike's injury. I'd say we keep him until January/next summer.
20 Apr 2026 15:32:39
Just my 2 penance on Konate close to a new deal if reports are true.
Think the club is seriously making a mistake here, on his day Konate can be world class, he has unbelievable power and his aggressive play style in the right circumstances is quality. I jus dont understand the new huge contract reports are saying he will be receiving (circa of 300kpw ive heard). I understand they maybe think we dont want to loose him on a free but this is a huge outlay. If he has another stinker of a season he will probably need replacing anyway and I cant imagine many, if any teams paying a good transfer fee for him if the form continues in the same vein.
My biggest issue with it tho is the message it sends to other squad players. He has had an unbelievably bad season, as have many others i agree but to give him a huge pay rise based of this is nuts in my mind. Cut your losses on him. Wish him the best and go find someone else who can consistently perform to the calibre we need. Sorry for long rant, just hope im wrong about this and Ibou can find some form next season and I look come back with my tail between my legs.
20 Apr 2026 16:19:50
We do seem to be rewarding players who have been awful this season, Gravenberch n now Konate, not a good policy is it.
20 Apr 2026 16:39:55
300k for 12 months is £15m roughly.
Rather they spend that now and look for better next year, then forking out 50m+ on a new defender, on top of all the other players we need to buy.
I'm not his biggest fan, and if this was the only position we had to fill in the summer then I would be looking at letting him go and buying a new CB.
20 Apr 2026 16:41:53
Hey lads, we can all have a bad time of it. Sometimes, things go wrong. We've had a big turned around in players, no time to settle, it takes time to build a team. We're all in this together. YNWA.
20 Apr 2026 16:59:17
Fowler has got it spot on, we have so much work to do this summer that we can't afford to be spending £40-£50 million on a Konate replacement.
20 Apr 2026 17:01:56
Gravenberch has been poor, but I recall after a goal and assist in the derby earlier in the season, we were talking about him being one of the best young midfielders in Europe (rightfully so). He's not even 24 yet!
Last season too, from Feb onwards, he was looking gassed out and everyone thought the team was suffering because of one player.
The whole team was on a rot because of one player. That's how important he was.
Fans seem to forget things very fast.
If a manager comes in that can actually manage, and find a system that functions, Grav will thrive again.
20 Apr 2026 17:04:26
Amie, it's all about priorities at this point cos for me, I would focus on the midfield cos that is The key area.
20 Apr 2026 17:11:07
If Ibou has another shocker next season, at least we know Jacquet or Leoni could take his place fairly quickly.
While he, along with a fair few of his team mates, has had a poor season, I would be curious to see how he does with a settled rb next to him and a defensive midfielder that he would trust in front of him.
I sometimes think he goes wandering because he doesn't trust his team mates beside and in front of him to win the duels.
Also worth pointing out that other than the Endrick assault, he's stayed injury free for almost two full seasons now.
20 Apr 2026 17:15:27
We need to keep our players in contract for resale value. They are assets. I don't think any player is going to be smelling of roses at the end of the season.
20 Apr 2026 17:18:54
In regards to Konate, I believe the club feels that even if he does have a stinker, securing him for 300k per week is an easier task and cheaper option than pursuing a top CB to replace him this summer. I imagine the risk to reward on outlay is worth it in their eyes because they feel Jacquet or Leoni will be able to step in if he does fail to produce adequate performances.
Like I've said before, as poor as we've been at the back, we've been even worse in midfield, and going forward, so I believe a midfielder and a winger are the club's main priorities at the moment.
20 Apr 2026 18:09:31
I posted the other day Konate has not only had to deal with the loss of Diogo, but also the loss of his father, which would affect how he has played.
We need to give Ibu some space, the lad has gone through a lot and just needs some support, guys. Remember we are Liverpool, we never walk alone.
{Ed001's Note - he wasn't good last season, what is the excuse then? What is the excuse for the years under Klopp that he would end up being in and out of the side because he couldn't be trusted? He just needs to go. Paisley would have had him out of the door within a year of signing him.}
20 Apr 2026 18:40:18
Maybe Konate signs an extension and VVD is sold this summer???!!!???
Surely the club didn't want to lose Konate on a free this summer and then VVD for a free next summer as well.
20 Apr 2026 19:34:05
Can't keep losing players for nothing. In the last 10 years.
Adrian, Clyne, Robertson, Moreno, Emre Can, Lallana, Milner, Keita, Ox, Wijnaldum, Markovic, Sturridge, Firmino, Origi, Salah, not a penny for any of them. Trent went for free, then we got 10m because of the Club World Cup.
Thiago and Matip retired after finishing with us, but still 2 players we had to replace with no funds towards it.
Once a player hits 2 years left on contract there should be a decision. Sell or extend.
21 Apr 2026 01:01:08
Taking into account inflation, there is still no way Konate is worth the same wages VVD was getting around the same age. That was peak VVD, or at least heading into VVD's peak years, and he was around the 180k mark.
I think Konate maxes out at 200k/week, no more. The ball park: Gvardiol, Fofana, De Ligt, Romero, Maguire are all around that figure and that is where Konate should be.
Speculating here, but if he is holding out for something around 300k, I would happily let him go. In that case I'd be targeting a late 20s CB, someone who is capable of starting and help bring Jacquet and Leoni along.
20 Apr 2026 14:13:15
Dunc over at Koptalk is citing an email from one of his ITK's in suggesting that talks with Alonso have screeched to a halt due to Edwards' over-involvement in transfers. Whatever you think of the source, this makes sense to me. I did suggest a few months back that Edwards may need to leave in order for us to bring in Alonso. I think others on here have shared that opinion. It also aligns with the big shift we've seen recently from Alonso being nailed on to Slot being backed for next season.
I did say that if the club is truly backing Slot for '26 that I felt it meant Alonso had turned us down. Not claiming to be ITK by any means, but I felt the info was relative for those who may not have heard. Even if it's true, there's still time to put things right. Hopefully the club sees that Alonso brings more to the table than Edwards.
20 Apr 2026 14:52:27
I thought Alonso was Hogans No1 choice, so I'd say he could over rule Edwards on that. But who knows. We just need Slot gone. I couldn't take another season of it.
20 Apr 2026 14:58:58
Whilst I don't accept Dunk has any ITKs, I agree it's always been an unwise assumption that Alonso is desperate to join LFC.
I've always been of the view that LFC loves Alonso more than Alonso loves LFC.
20 Apr 2026 15:06:31
I would say any potential incoming coach will be asking questions about Edwards and Hughes' futures, given the uncertainty we have been hearing. Whether it is Alonso or any other coach, they will want confidence and clarity in the project.
And, if you are Alonso, you would want some confidence that you had reasonable influence over the profile of signings made - especially since the squad needs some serious rebalancing. You don't want the "I asked for a sofa and they bought me a lamp" situation happening.
I may be deluded, but I am sticking by the fact that Slot has not been offered a new deal, was not backed in the January window, and was blocked from bringing the popular and available Heitinga back.
I reckon the "we back Slot" propaganda will continue until we have mathematically secured CL qualification. Once secured, we might get an announcement that Slot will not be continuing with the club next season for family reasons.
I might also be totally wrong. :)
20 Apr 2026 15:20:58
Isn't it Hughes that's involved with transfers, no longer Edwards? All three need to go. Hughes, Edwards and Slot.
20 Apr 2026 15:30:53
Deffo. Alonso had his chance, Madrid calling or not. Is he even proven? Debatable.
20 Apr 2026 15:59:11
What's the set up nowadays? Does Slot/coach get any say in transfers, or are we more like Chelsea now, where coach gets what he's given?
20 Apr 2026 16:06:24
I always believed that transfers were put forward, and the majority of the transfer team won, whether it was for or against. I believe that was how it ran during Klopp's first contract.
20 Apr 2026 16:06:44
I wonder how many times the will he, won't he conversation will arrive this week.
20 Apr 2026 16:07:57
Mmmmm, if this remotely has legs, then FSG have a decision to make, don't they.
Manager or coach...
Whatever happens, just hope it doesn't involve Slot.
All 3 need to go, but will be happy with just Slot to start off with, and the other 2 at end of contracts.
20 Apr 2026 16:13:24
My bad, Kloppiche, I meant to mention both Hughes and Edwards. Whilst Hughes is very much in charge of the day to day handling of contract negotiations and transfers, etc., Edwards is his old pal, boss and the reason he has his job, so I imagine Hughes operates very much as an Edwards puppet.
20 Apr 2026 17:02:03
Have the transfers been that bad?
20 Apr 2026 17:06:09
Probably right, @Chewy.
20 Apr 2026 17:11:36
WestYorkshirered, obviously we get mixed info from multiple sources, but it's easy enough to read between the lines; Slot was adamant he's heavily involved in transfers in a recent presser, but earlier in the season he also hinted that he didn't get the players he wanted and that the squad lacks depth. Given Slot's transfer history at Feyenoord, I very much doubt it was his decision to go out and buy a bunch of big names. It's been widely reported that Edwards has previously pulled rank and had fallen out with Klopp over potential targets, which may have even contributed to Edwards' decision to leave the club back in '22.
Upon his return to the club, it was rumoured that one of his conditions for taking on the role was that he had final say on transfers, and given his new position, I believe this is accurate. The fact that Arne was signed as a Head Coach instead of a Manager also supports that idea.
20 Apr 2026 20:03:21
Chewy, if that's the case then your post sounds completely plausible. Dream scenario, if Alonso did become coach, would be to try get Simon Rolfes in when Edwards goes. I imagine there's zero chance of that happening.
20 Apr 2026 21:47:39
WestYorkshire, it does seem to fit the narrative alright, but only time will tell. Rolfes would be the ideal man if we're bringing in Alonso, but you'd be right there. He's essentially part of the furniture at Leverkusen. I can't see him going anywhere. Admittedly, I don't follow up on execs unless they're linked with us, so I'm not even sure who else suitable is actually available.
Tbh, if I had it my way, I'd sack Edwards tonight, kick his duties up to Ward, in a limited capacity, literally just to get the Alonso deal over the line, and put Hughes on gardener leave until suitable replacements can be found.
20 Apr 2026 22:05:58
I am same, Chewy, I only know execs who have been mentioned here. Only heard of Rolfes when Leverkusen won the league, as he was getting a lot of praise. When I googled him and had a read, it was hard not to be impressed.
I would like to think Hughes's and Edwards will be off this summer, but got a feeling they will end up staying another year.
20 Apr 2026 12:31:34
Hi diddly Ho,
Sounds like Konate is close to a long-term deal - reported by James Pearce.
This is a quote from Konate.
"We are close to an agreement. I have a special relationship not only with the fans, but with every single person who works at the club. This club means so much to me."
Diddly out.
{Ed001's Note - there are videos circulating alleged to be of him filming his signing vid along with Gakpo.}
20 Apr 2026 12:53:34
Ibou also said the biggest influence on his playing style and concentration was Karius's CL Final performance. Explains everything.
20 Apr 2026 12:55:45
Good news, he seems to be finding a bit of form again, and we really don't need to be trying to fill more holes in the squad come the summer. Got to hope Bradley can stay fit next year, so he can build a consistent relationship on that right side of defence.
{Ed001's Note - who is? Konate? He was dog muck yesterday. Again.}
20 Apr 2026 13:10:16
Bradley is like Joe Gomez, both made of crisps.
20 Apr 2026 13:19:09
Ludicrous decision by the club.
20 Apr 2026 13:20:33
I am ok for him to renew on the basis that I don't have any faith that we'll do all the business we need to do this summer, and I would rather not be going into another season short in key positions.
If the rest of the business was done or close to done, then I would be inclined to let him go and replace him with a new CB in the summer.
20 Apr 2026 13:43:48
I'm happy either way. On his day, he is great (I know there haven't been many of those days recently), and, as FPF says, there are other areas of the team that we need to concentrate on more. With Jacquet and Leoni, hopefully being back and fit next season, there will be options and pressure on the starting CBs, unlike this season.
If he is this poor again next season, he will drop to the bench.
Virg also needs to sort himself out next season, because half of Konate's problems stem from the lackadaisical ethos instilled by Virg most of the time.
20 Apr 2026 13:44:52
My stance exactly, Fly.
20 Apr 2026 13:48:33
Philadelphia Collins, did you watch the game yesterday? For Everton's goal, he was dawdling and made no effort to stop the cross. We were nearly a goal down in the first few minutes, as he let Beto run across him for the header that was saved by Mamadashvili. For his size, he has no balance, and loses far too many headers.
20 Apr 2026 13:50:42
If he's going to be fourth choice with VVD, Leoni and Jacquet ahead of him, I can live with it. Maybe competition for the spot will do him good, but that may be wishful thinking.
20 Apr 2026 13:59:27
Not happy.
20 Apr 2026 14:12:08
We need that many new players, we'll see current players that are not good enough get new deals just to ease the pressure. Konate, Jones and Gakpo will fall into this category.
20 Apr 2026 14:22:05
Depends on the salary. If he's crippling us with his salary then I would have been happy to let him go. He's always got a constant howler in him.
20 Apr 2026 14:39:15
I think Konate gets far too much stick on here.
Anyone who has ever played the games knows that you need to have an understanding with your full back, to know when they are and when.
Konate hasn't had a steady full back all season, from one game to the next they change.
He is an international CB for a top seeded nation.
I am glad we are not losing another first team player for nothing, and someone with senior experience to help the two new young lads coming in.
20 Apr 2026 14:39:35
I'd play him in front of the defence.
20 Apr 2026 14:51:30
Yeah, I watched the game yesterday. My comment about form was that he seems to have improved in recent months, from the start of the season, when he should have been dropped. I think to win away yesterday was a very good result, considering how inconsistent we have been this season, and with Everton probably being the best they have been since Carlo left. As for the individual chances and the goal, for Beto's early chance, Konate was playing him offside.
It was Robertson and Virgil that played him on. Konate was the only defender that tracked back to try to do anything. For the goal, both CBs were out of position, covering the gaping hole Curtis left when pressing in the Everton half. Anyway, I stand by my comment. I would rather keep him than let him leave on a free.
20 Apr 2026 14:52:08
I'd play him in League One.
20 Apr 2026 16:15:57
He's useless, BeKind, and that's being kind. An undeniably terrible and bizarre decision by the club if indeed correct.
20 Apr 2026 16:53:21
Renew and sell next year, finally club is learning.
20 Apr 2026 19:24:26
May not be that bad business. We could always sell him summer 2027 and get some money for him rather than lose on a free. Plus, we've got Jacques and Leoni, who I am sure will be pushing him.
I'd rather us have bought someone else and let him go, but perhaps the money we do have can go to fixing the midfield to start with, adding legs and energy, fixing right back as well and adding a winger.
20 Apr 2026 19:35:15
That video of him and Gakpo is a Tommy Hilfiger advert I'm fairly sure.
20 Apr 2026 23:48:40
Cafu, the club won't ever be able to sell him if they give him a 300k/pw contract or similar.
Hughes has been handing out exorbitant contracts that will cripple us in terms of future negotiations.
21 Apr 2026 01:03:37
Will obviously support Konate if he does extend, but he is just so inconsistent! He doesn't strike me as a leader of the backline, and for a guy heading into his late 20s and peak years, on a new contract, I'd be hoping he is going to take over VVD.
He seems like a good #2, albeit inconsistent.
20 Apr 2026 12:21:40
Biggest suggestion that Ibou is here next season - BBC Sport website article with him quoted as saying "there's a big chance that [he] is here next season."
20 Apr 2026 14:39:45
Videos of him and Gakpos renewal videos were leaked on the weekend, pal.
20 Apr 2026 14:46:18
Whatever Konate's managed to squeeze out of the club, no matter what it is, is an awful lot for what next year should be a reserve player!
20 Apr 2026 15:21:33
We're renewing Gakpo too!!!???

Yes 2Shoes, whilst I've not been a fan of his this season, given the decline of all players this season, I have come to the conclusion the fault lies at the manager's door and his style/tactics/training.
Playing Klopp football, Gakpo was a good player as was Konate and others to boot.

Gakpo has already signed a new deal last season, if I'm not mistaken.

I know only a youth but not a good look that Josh Abe has gone to the City Arsenal game vs Derby.
He’s clearly gone this summer.

That's most probably because they're all Arsenal fans & his dad has a season ticket.

More likely down to the 30k pw he will be paid at his age!!
20 Apr 2026 11:40:53
PS, he can't agree/sign anything until 1st June, and even then it's a scholarship until 2027, when he can sign pro terms.

Looks like he's gone. Shame.

I am old enough to remember Jerome Sinclair (#BestThingSlinceSlicedBread) going to Watford and the "crisis" it caused.
These things happen all the time, and if he goes, so be it.
There'll be others.

Yeah, this is how we ended up with Rio, it happens. 🤷♂️

True that, Jurg. Many a young player jumped too soon chasing the money too soon.
The biggest example being Bobby Duncan, when his agent moved him on for the paycheck and ruined his career.
Whatever the lads pics, hopefully it's football pathway focused and not money, that will come with progress.

Isn't the Spanish Judas brother his agent?

With all the Slot talk, all the Alonso talk, all the Edwards / Hughes talk, I really don't have energy to get upset about a 15 year old kid lol.
